Severe Weather, Fire or Emergency Situations… the New Generation Child Care Center Child Care Center is expected to respond accordingly:

General Responsibilities:

  • If an emergency situation develops such as severe weather, fire, physical damage to the building or any other situation that poses a threat, the safety of the children is our first concern.
  • The School is equipped with a weather band radio, a fire alarm system sprinkler system, and fire extinguishers.
  • Fire and Severe weather drills are conducted according to state and county regulations. Fire drills are performed monthly and severe weather drills are practiced twice per year.
  • If there is an emergency situation and it becomes necessary to close the school, parents will be notified from the primary contact information on file to make arrangements for early pick-up.
  • If there is inclement weather and it is determined that the school will not open, (basically if the Denton ISD schools are closed we follow their closings), parents will be informed by a recording left on main school’s voice mail 940-387-4200 or WFAA-TV (Channel 8) school closings announcements for information.
  • If an emergency situation develops and it is determined that the building or premises are unsafe, your child(ren) will be transported to a safe location – Singing Oaks Church of Christ, 101 Cardinal Drive, Denton, Texas 76209 940-387-4355.
  • Parents will be notified of the situation and you will be required to pick up your child (ren) as soon as possible.

Procedures during Emergencies

A. In case of Severe Weather, Thunderstorms or Tornadoes the following procedures will be followed:
  1. When the siren is heard or the Center’s whistle is blown, the Director or assistant will notify teachers to prepare the children for safety.
  2. Each teacher is responsible for bringing their Contact Log (which has student’s emergency and medical information).
  3. Evacuation Procedures:
    • Toddlers and 2/3 year olds will go immediately to the designated restroom(s) located inside the hallways for safety.
    • 3/4’s, Pre-K and Kinders will assemble along the walls in the hallways, preferably in the center of the building. When assembled, this group will take a crouch position with hands covering head.
  4. Teachers will take a head count during the group’s gathering then check restrooms in classroom to make sure all children are in the designated place of safety.
  5. NOTE: If the warning is during naptime, the teacher in charge will give directions on additional help needed for waking and securing the children. Each teacher is responsible to make sure no child is unattended during this transition, whether they are in your class or not.
  6. Make sure all doors are closed in classrooms and lights out after having children properly grouped. Teachers are to secure flashlights and a designated teacher or support staff person brings the First Aid Kit out of the office.
  7. The Director will gather extra batteries for flashlights and bring a battery operated radio to receive updates on weather conditions.
  8. Staff is expected to be alert and attentive to all children in their designated areas.
  9. When warning is lifted and it is safe for movement, the Director will give instructions for returning to classrooms by classes in an orderly manner and request an immediate head count.
  10. Communication Procedures:The Director will maintain a Center’s phone if operative or a cell phone to contact the appropriate authorities and report to parents and the Licensing Office as deemed necessary.Note: If a child becomes injured or ill during the emergency process, the parent will be notified immediately. If parents cannot be reached, emergency contacts will be notified.
    If critical illness or injury requires immediate medical attention for a child we will do the following:
    • Contact emergency medical services by calling 911 to take the child to the nearest emergency room. New Generation Child Care Center uses Denton Regional Medical Center as its designated emergency care center.

    • Give the child First-Aid treatment or CPR when needed.
    • Contact the physician identified on the child’s “Authorization for Emergency Medical Care” form, as well as the health information on file will accompany the child.
    • Contact parent (if parent cannot be reached, the 1st emergency contact will be called).
    • Teacher should ask for assistance from the Director for processing the emergency and maintain order and ensuring supervision of the children in the group.

    B. In Case Of Fire or Explosion the following procedures will be followed:

  12. Each teacher is responsible for bringing their Contact Log (which has student’s emergency and medical information).
  13. Evacuation Procedures:
    • Teachers will follow the Evacuation Route that has been practiced from the Monthly Fire Drills from their designated areas.
    • The teachers are to take their classes approximately 200 feet from the building toward the open field behind the facility.
    • Teachers will take a head count after they have gathered children to the designated place of safety.

    The Director or assistant will check restrooms and all classrooms to make sure all children are in the designated place of safety outside and no one is left unattended.
    If a child becomes injured or ill during the evacuation or emergency process, the parent will be notified immediately. If parents cannot be reached, emergency contacts will be notified.

    If critical illness or injury requires immediate medical attention for a child we will do the following:

    Relocation from the Center

    • If the emergency requires relocation or an alternate shelter we will go to the:

    • The Director will maintain a cell phone to contact the appropriate authorities and report to parents and the licensing office as deemed necessary. We will call 911 to report and inform City of Denton Police Department that we will need off campus shelter and that we will take shelter at Singing Oaks Church of Christ.
    • Singing Oaks Church of Christ will be notified that we will be coming there for off campus shelter during this emergency with the number of children and staff. We will give an approximate time of arrival.
    • The teachers will by class groups assist the children on the van(s) to the Singing Oaks Church of Christ and ride with assigned classes. Transportation safety policies will be observed to the utmost with special regards to transporting little ones with car seats as provided by the Center and left by parents for pickup.
    • Teachers and students will be dropped off at the Singing Oaks Church of Christ and once there, a head count will be made after children have been placed.
    • Each teacher will bring their Contact Log (which has students’ emergency and medical information)
    • Teachers are expected to be alert and attentive and provide a calming affect toward the children during this transaction.

    NOTE: If the warning is during naptime, the teacher in charge will give directions on additional help needed for waking and securing the children. Each teacher is responsible to make sure no child is unattended during this transition, whether they are in your class or not.

  14. Staff is expected to be alert and attentive to all children in their care during this transition.
  15. When warning is lifted and it is safe for movement, the Director will give instructions for returning to the Center by classes in an orderly manner and request an immediate head count.
  16. Communication Procedures:
    • The Director will maintain a cell phone to contact the appropriate authorities and report to parents and the Licensing Office as deemed necessary.
    • Parents will have the opportunity to call the appropriate cell number of the Director – 940-367-4002
    • Information on the pick-up process will be released to parent(s). Parents will have the opportunity to come to Singing Oaks Church of Christ to receive their child (ren) before the group returns to New Generation Child Care Center.
    C. In case of a Communicable Disease Outbreak the following procedures will be followed:
    • In case of a “Communicable Disease Outbreak”. We will notify the Denton County Health Department for directives and suggestive procedures.
    • Parents will be notified of suggested procedures through personal conferences from the Director or assistant, and flyers will be posted in common areas of the Center.
    • Child (ren) that is affected by the communicable disease parent(s) will be notified immediately by the Director or assistant.
    • Child (ren) will only be admitted back to the Center with proper clearance from their primary care physician.
    • Director or assistant will notify licensing as deemed necessary.
